Science-backed tools that…

The Center for Reflective Intelligence designs evidence-based educational tools and facilitates formative experiences that deepen connections and drive culture change across schools and organizations.

PRACTICE MAKES PURPOSE

Research within and beyond our lab shows that reflective intelligence helps people of all ages feel a deeper sense of purpose and belonging.

Reflective Intelligence is our innate capacity to learn from the past, act with intention in the present, and thoughtfully shape our future.

It's how we make meaning of our experiences and relationships, transforming everyday moments into sources of insight, purpose, and connection.

Reflective intelligence isn't a fixed trait - it's a skill that anyone can develop with deliberate practice.

Through our research-backed tools and practices, we create spaces where reflective intelligence flourishes, fostering deeper purpose and authentic belonging in our lives, work, and communities.

Our work is rigorously tested and grounded in the four core practices of reflective intelligence:

Intention Setting

Aligning daily actions with our deeper purpose and values.

INSIGHT GATHERING

Discovering wisdom from recent experiences to guide our next steps

FUTURE CRAFTING

Exploring who we aspire to become as our compass through uncertainty

Story Crafting

Shaping past experiences into meaningful narratives that inform who we are.

These interconnected practices are proven to help leaders, educators, and learners share purposeful experiences, build deeper relationships, find more meaning in their work, and build lasting cultures of change.

Student-centered, educator-first

We design accessible, engaging tools that adapt to our partner’s unique needs, and integrate seamlessly with existing programs, while building practitioners’ capacity for reflection and mentorship.

Our approach starts with creating space for educators to experience reflective intelligence firsthand by coming together to think and talk about what matters most. This embodied experience, paired with our practical tools, enables them to facilitate meaningful reflection with students, ultimately creating more engaging learning experiences and cultures of connection.

"Thank you for your work that truly transformed my life. In redefining my sense of purpose, one of service to others, it shaped the next phase of my career.” –Fiona, Brookfield Public Schools

ABOUT CRI

Our mission is to build communities where people think intentionally and talk meaningfully about life together.

Through our research and work, we’ve learned:

  • Thinking about our lives develops purpose.

  • Talking meaningfully with others develops belonging.

  • When we share purpose and belonging, community emerges.

We want to live in a world where people feel connected to their experiences, to other people, and to community.

The Center was founded in 2024 by clinical psychologist Belle Liang, PhD and award-winning educator Tim Klein, LCSW, co-authors of the book How to Navigate Life.
